Paper Wings Makes Fashion Magic
Every season we can’t wait to see what Paper Wings pulls out of its hat. The Aussie brand never disappoints. While the inspiration changes with each collection, we love how the line never loses its magical appeal. We know that’s because the duo behind the line, Jason Gibaud and Michelle Fallon, has a background in costume design, feature film production, architecture and interior design. We hadn’t even read about their background in film when we noted how pieces reminded us of illustrations from Peter Pan. Wouldn’t you know, Fallon and Gibaud worked on Moulin Rouge, Star Wars and Peter Pan. What’s most striking about the line is that even though it’s sophisticated and theatrical in some respects, it is completely wearable.
Staying true to its tagline of “Celebrating Childhood,” Paper Wings creates designs that can easily transition from school to play to dress-up, depending on how the pieces are combined. And now the already wonderful line adds its first “totally organic, fully certified garments.” Prints in the Fall/Winter ’09 collection take inspiration from the art of paper cutting, as seen in the hearts and owls that appear in unexpected places. The collection continues to blend old-world silhouettes with contemporary styling.
