Daph Daph Steps It Up
Why are we not surprised that the mind behind Daph Daph footwear, Daphne Kaufer, is an architect? Perhaps it's because the Snappy collection Kaufer launched for Spring/Summer ‘07 has all the telltale signs of someone who is used to focusing on the details. That collection allowed kids to customize their shoes by snapping on textured patches in a variety of shapes. The Snappy collection continues to be a favorite. Now the San Francisco-based Kaufer steps it up for Fall/Winter 09/10. She moves beyond the Snappy concept with the Collage Homage group offering embellished mary janes, ballerinas, boots and booties with printed leather medallion appliqués. Featuring an aged look, the appliqués are inspired by antique jewelry and vintage upholstery.
The earthy Felties group offers leather boots with patterned felt insets and a decorative front tie. And the very cool SUBmarine collection takes inspiration from the Yellow Submarine animated feature based on the Beatles music. These patent leather rain boots feature clear vinyl windows that show off interchangeable inner socks in different colors and patterns. Each boot includes a pair of matching fleece socks, and other patterns can be purchased separately. Kaufer’s customization concept continues with the Snappy Rider that allows girls to accessorize boots with two different snap-on cuffs – a fur cuff and a cuff inspired by a jester’s hat.
