Boys and girls six months to size 4 get a taste of India with the launch of Masala Baby, a refreshing collection from Dipali Patwa.
By Lynda M. Johnson, November 25, 2009

Using a pinch of turmeric, a dash of cloves, a sprig of saffron and a handful of rode petals as inspiration, Masala Baby delivers a stunning selection for small sizes. The newly launched collection is infused with both the color and tradition of designer Dipali Patwa's native India. Masala, a term used to describe unique ingredients combined to create a surprising mixture, is an apt moniker for Patwa's creation.

Featuring a rich palette of spice shades, Masala offers bodysuits decorated with Marwari horses, elephants and camels; relaxed comfortable pants; soft cotton knit t-shirts; roomy hooded sets; a traditional village folk skirt of cotton voile layers and Kurtas, tunics in natural hand-woven fabrics with folkloric embroidery. Boldly colored crib blankets in lush reversible hand-blocked sari fabrics are also featured.

Patwa's 'Fun-damentals,' are every day knit basics with cultural and modern motifs for mixing and matching. The 'Free Spirit' group captures the energy of New York and the vibrancy of India by mixing textures, colors, styles and cultures for a modern look. Stripes, peacock feather embroidery and camel motif borders are key accents here. The 'Loungewear' group encompasses the hooded sets in two-toned cotton lined with soft knit.

This Brooklyn-based line is available in infants 6-12 months, 12-18 months and sizes 1-4. Wholesale prices range from $12 to $24 for separates and $40 for hooded sets.
