Kids' fashion is back on the catwalk during New York Fashion Week after a three-year hiatus. The last kids' shows took place between 2005 and 2007, when the now-shuttered Child magazine showcased kids' couture on the Fashion Week runway. This year's presentation comes from petitePARADE and will feature the Spring/Summer 2011 collections from Pitti Bimbo runway favorites Roberto Cavalli, Sonya Rykiel, Simonetta, Monnalisa, Miss Grant and Charabia out of Italy and France and Custo Growing out of Spain. Love Therapy, Baby Angel by Fiorucci and Inca Girl will also participate in the invitation-only event for media, retail buyers, celebrity kids and parents. Slated for September 10-11, the shows take place at New York's Metropolitan Pavilion. Tiziana Indelicato, co-founder of the event, is the creator of Gigi & Zaza, an e-commerce boutique for children's shoes. Partners in the event include Jana Water, Fisher-Price, Soaringwords, Hiho Batik and NewGrass. In other New York Fashion Week news, Brooklyn tween retailer Level Two is the only tween boutique officially participating in Vogue's Fashion's Night Out on September 10. Since the store is not set to open until later this fall, this event will provide a sneak peek for parents and kids. Targeting tastemakers ages 7-16, the new Park Slope boutique is owned by actress/model Leigh Whitney, a Brooklyn native who will operate the business with her twin sister Robin Wilcher, owner of the DuoKids showroom. The sisters decided to open the store after recognizing an emphasis on 'everything baby' and 'everything teen' had left a void in their neighborhood for stylish shops targeting tweens like their own niece and nephew. Level Two is located at 456 Bergen Street. (917.622.3444) |
