Children's apparel designer LamanBlu just launched a new website to provide easier online access to wholesale ordering information. Designed to provide easily navigated access to line sheets, look books, trend reports and more, the new site was created in direct response to buyers' requests, according to CEO Holli Gibson, who notes the wholesale environment is changing. "Buyers are looking to do more work from their stores, without doing as much travel to view and purchase lines," says Gibson. The second phase of the site redesign focuses on the consumer, providing direct links to where they can purchase LamanBlu. Pop-up shops are turning up at trade shows. Playtime New York has announced it will be staging a pop-up shop at its March 5-7, 2011 show at SOHO's 82 Mercer building. The second edition of Playtime New York, which presents children's clothing, accessories and gear from around the world, will feature a store-like environment stocked with goods from exhibitors that can be purchased on the spot. Playtime reports the space will allow retailers to see the products merchandised in a unique way. Although the pop-up shop is for registered show visitors as well as consumers, consumers' access to the show will be limited to the pop-up shop. A pop-up shop also made an appearance at Florence, Italy's Pitti Bimbo children's trade show. A special shopping section debuted at the three-day fair, which ended Saturday, January 22, 2011. In other trade show news, the ENK Children's Club and the American International Toy Fair, are providing free smartphone access to show exhibitors. Registered attendees can check out exhibitors and stay on top of show events. ENK Children's Club provided mobile access at its January show in New York City, and it plans on offering the same feature again at the March 6-8 show. Toy Fair, which runs February 13-16, is also using technology to stage Play Happens, a virtual and social board game designed to bridge the online and offline activity of Toy Fair 2011 attendees. Using a special web application, registered attendees with a smartphone and a Foursquare membership, can play to win a New York City New Year's Eve 2011 prize package with an estimated value of $5,500. Participants play by checking in at participating locations throughout the city during their stay for Toy Fair. Players will earn points on the virtual board game based on the number of check-ins and the places they check in.
